Beauty Shop

Tools of the TradeWhat appears today as possible torture was considered in the 1920’s a necessity for beauty. If you wanted a permanent wave, these machines were the state-of-the-art way to stylish hair offered at Rose Griffith’s Beauty Shop which operated in Ripley for 55 years. The shop also holds beauty equipment and hair styling items from the 1800’s, 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s including a manicure table, hair dryer, and a chair from one of the towns best-loved barber shops, Reggie’s.

The lovely stained-glass window came from the Centenary Methodist Church. The minister at the time of construction of this church was Rev. Granville Moody, known during the Civil War as the “Fighting Parson.”
