Master Bedroom

This beautiful master bedroom's furnishings are of pre-Civil War times. The half-tester bed is made of walnut, but grained to appear as rosewood, the more fashionable wood of the period. It is topped with a lovely white quilt which holds an exceptional sampling of fine quilting. In addition to the bed is a matching mirrored dresser and marble topped wash stand.Cochran Sewing Machine

A chifferobe holds a number of pieces of vintage clothing. The white garments were particularly in fashion at the turn-of-the-century (1900).

The 1886 sewing machine represents a successful business venture by J.C. Cochran. Mr. Cochran’s success gave him the distinction of being the first person in the village to own a car.

The gentleman's clothing and top hat were made by a Ripley tailor, and the silk and lace-topped dress is a copy of the “Alice Blue Gown” made famous by Alice Roosevelt. This was made by the Schwallie sisters who owned a local tailoring shop.Made in Ripley, Ohio

The lovely yellow ball gown was worn in the 1920’s to a military ball by the woman whose picture is found on the dresser. You might note what she is wearing in the picture, as this match is quite a rarity.

The small boots are salesman samples. The traveling shoe salesman carried these door to door for customers to select style and color.

The white dress on display was especially made to wear to the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. You will also find on the wall, to the left, a momento of this fair.
