Memorabilia Room

As you enter this room a featured display titled “The Artimisha Ellen Piatt Story” is directly on your left. This tells the story of one of Ripley’s greatest unsolved mysteries and legends.

Four specific areas of Ripley life are remembered in this room. These pertain to medicine, churches, military service, and entertainment.

Father is a Bachelor - Staring William HoldenThe mini-Ripley Theatre holds authentic posters and fliers used to promote movies in Ripley’s last picture theater. An original movie poster on the wall announced “Father Is A Bachelor” starring William Holden. Holden and Columbia Picture production staff spent 3 weeks in Ripley, in 1949, filming location shots for the movie.

Just press play to hear the sound of Joe Smith, a Ripley born trumpeter, who made hundreds of recordings with some of the 1920’s most famous jazz bands and singers.
Each Ripley church has provided momentoes from their earliest years. Ripley’s soldiers are remembered with military uniforms representing WW I, Korean War, WW II, and Viet Nam; and our doctors are remembered with photographs and medical related items including those excavated from the former property of Dr. Alexander Campbell, physician, senator, and active abolitionist.
